PREVIEWING: Fayetteville, Ark., at Muskogee; Catoosa at Fort Gibson; Beggs at Hilldale

Fayetteville, Ark. at Muskogee

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Radio: KCXR 100.3 FM Web:

Records: Muskogee 0-2, Fayetteville, Ark. 2-0.

Last week: Owasso 36, Muskogee 7; Fayetteville 34, Jefferson City, Mo. 24.

Last meeting: Fayetteville, Ark. 55, Muskogee 14 (2012).

About the matchup: The Bulldogs hail as two-time Class 7A champions but aren’t the same spread, pass-first team they were when Arkansas signee Austin Allen directed six touchdown drives in as many possessions in last year’s rout. They’ll employ more of a two-tight, run-oriented attack this season, at least as it appears in the early going. Fayetteville returns three starters on offense and like Muskogee, a new offensive line. The Bulldogs return four starters on defense. Jordan Dennis, 6-2, 175 Sr. WR/CB, is top returner. Caught 64 passes for 1,001 yards and 10 touchdowns last year and had 32 tackles, four interceptions as cornerback on defense in part-time role. Top recruit on team. For Muskogee, Bryson Bell will take over Sammy Richardson’s spot in the secondary and Mackenzie McCall is set to get additional reps at running back in addition to his linebacker spot on defense.

Series record: Muskogee leads, 12-2.

Notes: Fayetteville is ranked No. 3 in Class 7A in Arkansas….First home contest for the Roughers who were 0-4 at home last season.

Catoosa at 4A No. 4 Fort Gibson

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Radio: KTFX 101.7 FM

Records: Fort Gibson 2-0, Catoosa 1-1.

Last week: Fort Gibson 17, Hilldale 10; Catoosa 21, Collinsville 14.

Last meeting: Fort Gibson 35, Catoosa 32 (2012).

About the matchup: The Tigers will try and avoid a letdown following the emotional Battle for the Rock as they attempt to finish non-district play unblemished. Fort Gibson rallied in the second half as J.R. Singleton hit Jordan London on a 52-yard TD pass and Michael Richey capped it with a 1-yard run after Daniel Mielnik gave the Tigers a brief lead on a 29-yard field goal. Singleton threw for 182 yards. Guiding the Indians' offense is quarterback Caleb Wilsey who ran for 61 yards on 12 carries and completed 11 of 17 attempts for 168 yards. When the Indians keep it on the ground, their main threats are Darren Fowler (40 carries, 135 yards, one touchdown) and Hunter Harrison (21-110, two TDs).

Series record: Catoosa leads, 6-1.

Notes: Fort Gibson is 7-3 in its last 10 home games…Fort Gibson is 2-0 in back to back years for the first time since 2003-04.

Hilldale at Beggs

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Records: Beggs 1-1, Hilldale 1-1.

Last week: Beggs 47, Sequoyah 33; Fort Gibson 17, Hilldale 10.

Last meeting: Hilldale 28, Beggs 12 (2012).

About the matchup: The Hornets will look to fine-tune a mistake-prone attack that resulted in 11 flags and eight pass drops in last week’s 17-10 loss to Fort Gibson. The Hornets’ defense, led last week by defensive end Justin Sanders with 14 tackles, will face a big-play Beggs team. Lane Bouse rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries, four catches for 59 yards and 406 all-purpose yards, some of those coming off an interception that set up what proved to be the game-winning touchdown. He also returned kickoffs for 92- and 80-yard scores. Kerry Daniels, a 6-2, 220-pound back, had 101 yards in week 1 for the Demons. Daniels has 163 rushing yards for the season, Bouse has 211. But quarterback Tyler Marr (32-of-49, 464 yards passing) brings balance. Look for the Demons, coached by former Gore coach Lee Blankenship, to physically test the Hornets with their bigger back early.

Series record: Hilldale leads, 1-0.

Notes: Hilldale has not lost back-to-back road games since 2009.
