SALLISAW — Tahlequah amassed 444 yards of total offense, but the Tigers fell behind late in the first half and never could catch up in a 45-28 loss to Sallisaw on Friday night.
Tahlequah’s David Dick ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. All three of his scores came on runs of 15 yards or more, including a 65-yard scamper down the right sidelines in the third quarter.
Sallisaw’s Cale Wilson turned in a second straight solid performance, collecting 191 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. It was Wilson’s 50-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that gave the Black Diamond (2-1) a 38-21 lead with 4:23 left in the period.
Sallisaw finished with 419 total yards on offense.
Tahlequah drops to 0-3 and will begin District 5A-4 play Friday at Grove. Sallisaw will host Poteau in its district opener in 4A-4.
