Phoenix Staff Reports
Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Hilldale 2-1, Jay 2-1.
Last week: Hilldale 61, Beggs 27; Jay 27, McDonald County, Mo. 12.
Last meeting: Hilldale 26, Jay 7 (2012).
About the matchup: Hornets running back Seth Reheard is out with an ankle injury, meaning the running game will be in the hands of his backup, junior Hunter Woods and senior fullback Hunter Olson. Woods had 150 yards on 29 carries and five touchdowns and Hunter Olson, playing fullback, had 107 yards on six carries as the Hornets defeated Beggs 61-27.
Chandler Puckett was 15-of-19 passing for 248 yards and two TDs, one to Bradley Campbell, who had six catches for 115 yards. Hilldale totaled 543 yards of offense.
Jay is bigger up front on both sides than Beggs was, which will challenge the Hilldale ground game in a different way. The core of the defensive front is nose guard Brett Webb. Quarterback Brandon Weaver is more of a passing quarterback than Shai Jones was a year ago when he threw for just 57 yards.
Series record: Jay leads, 6-1.
Notes: Hilldale has won its last three district openers and its last seven straight home games.
