Lady Roughers win tourney; Hilldale gets silver

Audrey Johnson, Lexi Watson and Carlee Gann each drove in runs in two-hit games as Muskogee won the Coweta-Claremore Tournament 3-2 against Claremore in fastpitch softball action on Saturday.

“We’re chugging along I guess you can say,” MHS coach Keith Coleman said. “They were grind-it-out wins. We didn’t play really well but didn’t do too bad. We got good pitching and we hit and made the defensive plays when we had to.”

Grinding had to do with traveling too. Since Claremore (13-4) hosted a portion of the tournament, they got the right to host the final. Muskogee played at Coweta at noon in the final pool game and won 4-1, rallying from a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the fourth including a two-run home run by Dee Emarthle, her fourth.

Back to the title game, Johnson and Carlee Gann were 2-for-3 and Lexi Watson 2-for-4. Watson and Nia Maxwell also had two hits in the Coweta win.

Shaylee Rowland (12-2) won both games in the circle, both on four-hitters.

Muskogee has won 11 straight, is 18-2 and is atop the District 6A-3 standings where it resumes play Tuesday against Sand Springs. The 6A coaches ceased rankings a couple weeks back.

Hilldale is Silver  champ at Norman

In its final pool play game in the OU Tournament, Hilldale lost 4-3 to Edmond North, hampered by a couple of defensive miscues in the seventh to break a 2-2 tie, and ended a 15-game win streak.  Destiny Riddle hit her sixth home run of the season in the game. Emily Dowdy took the loss in the circle.

Riddle would add her seventh home run in the Silver Bracket championship, where Hilldale beat Westmoore 8-3 as McKensie Plant and Sarah Hughey each had three hits. Plant drove in three runs with a pair of doubles and Toni McMillan had a pair of hits. In all, Hilldale had 13 hits.  Riddle had the pitching win.

Hilldale, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, is now 17-2 on the year and goes to Miami on Monday.
