Non-area teams Latta, Ketchum to tangle today at MCC

Two non-area teams will make the trek to Muskogee Civic Center  today to do battle in what should be a quality Class 2A doubleheader.

Ketchum and Latta were supposed to play a girls-boys doubleheader as part of an arrangement prior to an Oklahoma City Thunder game at Chesapeake Arena. Instead, a schedule switch occurred and to salvage it, the two schools will meet at a neutral site here with tipoffs at 5:30 (girls) and 7 p.m. (boys).

“The Thunder gave us the option of a couple of Sundays but no way will our school boards let us get out on that day, so we’re excited to be at Muskogee,” said Ketchum girls coach Sam Fairchild, who played at Muskogee High as a sophomore under Ted Clement then graduated at Porter.

Latta boys are 13-3, ranked No. 2 and defending 2A champions. Ketchum went 26-1 last season after making the state tournament and come in to this contest at No. 12 with an 11-4 mark.

Latta girls are 12-4 and No. 5 in Class 2A with two losses coming in the Bertha Teague Tournament of Champions. Ketchum is No. 7 and 14-3 with its only losses coming in the TPS Tournament of Champions at the Mabee Center.

Ketchum girls feature a senior point guard, Miranda Griffin, who has signed with Northeastern State.
