Girls soccer

HILLDALE 3, MANNFORD 1 — Bailey Walters, Caitlin Morgan and Leah Gragg answered a 1-0 deficit with goals to send the Lady Hornets (5-8) into the postseason and a likely matchup against Mannford. Pairings won’t be official until next week.

Walters scored on a corner kick from Gragg to take the contest to the half tied at 1. Caitlin Morgan’s through ball 10 minutes into the second half gave Hilldale the lead for good and Gragg booted through the icer with 12 minutes remaining.

Nicole Wright had six saves at goal.

This marks the first time for Hilldale’s girls to qualify for the postseason. Last year, in the first year for either boys or girls soccer at the school, it was the boys who made the playoffs.

“I like the way we finished,” Hilldale coach Brent Breckon said, his team winning 1-0 against Pawhuska on Tuesday. “We’ve played three games in four days and we’ve put together a complete 80 minutes the past two games. We’ve strived to eliminate mistakes and have put together two games without them and I’m really confident about going into the postseason.”

The game will likely be Friday and is a play-in game

The Hilldale boys season ended earlier this week.

VERDIGRIS 3, WAGONER 1 — Brooklyn Broad scored the Lady Bulldogs’ goal in the first half to drop to 9-4 for the season. Wagoner trailed 2-1at halftime to the team that’s ranked No. 2 in the Okrankings.com Class 4A poll this week.
