Tahlequah gets some gold at meet

Muskogee's points limited

TAHLEQUAH — Brandon Conrad picked up a gold medal, and Eric Garcia and Allison Hickman both placed second in their respective events to lead both Tahlequah track teams at the Reasors Track Classic on Friday.

Conrad — who finished second to Broken Arrow’s Damian Howard in the high jumpe at the Broken Arrow meet last week — beat Howard back on his home turf of Tahlequah High School. Conrad, Howard and Union’s Luke McAllister all recorded leaps of 6 feet, but Conrad accomplished the feat in fewer jumps, resulting in Conrad’s second Tahlequah track meet crown.

As for Garcia, he was able to defend his home turf this season with a second-place showing in the discus. Garcia let loose a throw of 150 feet, 1 inch and finished three inches off the pace set by Jenks’ Derek Robinson — who accomplished his best throw on his final attempt of the day.

Garcia also finished fifth in the shotput at 46 feet, 5 inches. Garcia was sixth in the event in 2013.

As for Hickman, the junior runner put Tahlequah on the 100-meter dash map with a second-place finish at 13.06. Hickman won the first heat, but Union’s Esther Udoumoh overtook the overall lead in the second heat — and won the individual title — with a sprint of 12.95 seconds.

The Tahlequah boys finished in fifth place with 50 points. The Tahlequah girls were ninth with 18.5 points. Jenks boys and Broken Arrow girls were team champs.

Muskogee placed sixth in the boys 1,600 relay (3:39.65) for the Roughers only points in the 11-team field. Same on the girls side, where the Lady Roughers were sixth in the 1,500 relay (4:24.03) and made the finals in the 400, finishing seventh  (54.23).
