Prep football playoff scenarios

— A look at the playoff picture involving area teams with one game remaining in the regular season.

These are in:

• WAGONER (8-1, 5-1) is District 4A-3 champion and will play the fourth-place team from 4A-3, most likely Sallisaw.

• FORT GIBSON (8-1, 5-1) will finish second in 4A-4 and play at home next week with a win over Sallisaw or a loss by Broken Bow to Cascia Hall and losing by no less than 13 to Sallisaw. The Tigers will face Cleveland, Catoosa or Oologah in the first round.

• SEQUOYAH (7-1, 5-0) has clinched first place in 3A-7 provided it doesn’t have to forfeit any games with the OSSAA’s ruling against players who participated in camps. That appeal isn’t until Nov. 7. If it doesn’t have to forfeit, HILLDALE (7-2,4-1) will finish as the 3A-7 runner-up and will play the third-place team from 3A-8. KEYS (4-4, 3-2) has also clinched and will finish third and play the 3A-8 runner-up among Checotah, Stigler, Roland or Spiro.

• CHECOTAH (7-1, 5-1) and STIGLER (7-2, 5-1) have clinched playoff spots in 3A-8. Checotah wins the district with a victory of two or more points over Spiro (4-5, 4-2) and a Stigler win at Idabel (2-7, 1-5). Should Checotah win and Stigler lose, the Wildcats would finish second if Roland (7-2, 5-1) wins based on two-way head-to-head. A Checotah loss and a Stigler win gives Stigler first place.

• VIAN (9-0, 5-0) has clinched 2A-6 and will play the fourth-place team from 2A-5, most likely Haskell.

• GORE (6-3, 4-1) has clinched a playoff spot in A-6, but Savanna’s loss to previously unbeaten Talihina has assured a two-way tie, to be decided in head-to-head matchups among four teams. Gore wins the district by beating Talihina (8-1, 4-1) and Savanna (8-1, 4-1) beating Sallisaw Central (4-5, 4-1). If Central and Gore win, Central wins the district by virtue of its win over the Pirates. Gore in

turn would finish third with a loss and a Savanna loss, or fourth with a loss and a Central loss. The champion plays the Elmore City-Stratford winner that’ll decide fourth in A-5 and the other three will meet either Wynnewood, Wayne or Wewoka.

• WARNER (9-0, 5-0) has won A-8 and will face Yale, the fourth-place team in A-7.

• WEBBERS FALLS (6-2, 4-2) has clinched a playoff spot in C-4 and will take second by beating Arkoma (4-5, 2-4) at home and a Southwest Covenant win over Bokoshe (1-7, 0-6) or a Sasakwa (4-3, 4-2) loss to Maud (5-3, 3-3). If Maud wins and Webbers loses, Webbers would win the points

tiebreaker over Maud in any situation and would need only to lose by no less than 14 to finish worse than third. A loss by Southwest Covenant and wins by Webbers and Sasakwa and Webbers would finish third.

Still has business:

• HASKELL (6-3, 2-3) takes fourth in 2A-5 with a win against Mounds (3-6, 1-4) or by avoiding losing by 11 or more. The Haymakers’ reward: No. 1 Vian the following week.

Off-season starts next week:

Muskogee, Tahlequah, Eufaula, Porter, Hulbert, Porum, Midway.
