State basketball tournament roundup


CLASS 6A —  Shane Olden had 20 points and nine rebounds to help Tulsa Union defeat Putnam City West 72-64  Saturday night at the Mabee Center. Olden made just four field goals, but he made 12 of 16 free throws for the Redskins, who won their second title in three years. Omega Harris scored 25 points for Putnam City West, which beat Muskogee in the quarterfinals.

CLASS 5A — Rjwan Diggs scored 20 points as Tulsa Memorial beat Bishop McGuinness 59-52, giving former Muskogee boys assistant Bobby Allison a title. Allison coached under Terry Scott.

CLASS 4A — Trey Sanders scored 24 points to help Oklahoma City Douglass defeat Stilwell 78-50. Antonio Wilson and LSU football recruit Deondre Clark scored 12 points each for the Trojans, who won their fifth consecutive title and eighth overall. Matt Lea scored 19 points and Chase Littlejohn added 12 for Stilwell, a quarterfinal winner against Fort Gibson. The Indians shot just 35 percent overall. Douglass, which beat Stilwell 77-72 in regionals, shot 64 percent in the second half.

CLASS 3A — Austin Guinn had 30 points and nine rebounds to help No. 1 Okemah defeat No. 2 Oklahoma Centennial 54-53 in two overtimes. Okemah, which beat Sequoyah in Friday’s semifinals and lost in last year’s state final, held Centennial scoreless in the second extra period.

CLASS 2A — Kade Hayes scored 22 points to help Latta defeat Haworth 57-50 and repeat as Class 2A state champion. Haworth led 26-19 at halftime, but Latta outscored the Lions 38-24 in the second half and 23-7 from the free-throw line for the game.


CLASS 6A — Toree Thompson scored 23 points to help Broken Arrow defeat Edmond Santa Fe 70-51 in the Class 6A girls final Saturday. Santa Fe, which beat Muskogee in Friday’s semifinals, made just 19 of 53 shots, including 2 of 15 3-pointers, and missed 13 of 24 free throws.

CLASS 5A — Dakota Vann had 17 points and 17 rebounds to help Deer Creek defeat Tulsa East Central 31-28 in overtime, The game was tied at 23 at the end of regulation. The squads combined to make just 21 of 89 shots from the field.

CLASS 3A — Jaden Hobbs scored 32 points as Alva knocked off Adair 49-40. Alva lost in the 2A final last year. It was Alva’s first state title since 2003 — the other came in 1924.

CLASS 2A — Chelsea Dungee scored 23 points to help Preston defeat Cordell 45-41 in the Class 2A girls title game Saturday at State Fair Park. It was the seventh state title and first since 2009 for the Lady Pirates. Gabbie Parsons scored 22 points for Cordell.
