Lady Roughers unbeaten in Broken Arrow

Muskogee improved to 3-0 on the year with a 4-3 win over Edmond Deer Creek and a 4-2 victory over Class 4A champion Oologah at the Broken Arrow Tournament on Friday.

Against Deer Creek, Shaylee Rowland improved to 2-0 in the circle, pitching six innings and scattering four hits with three strikeouts and surrendering one earned run. Rowland was also 2-for-3 with a double at the plate and was one of three Lady Roughers who had a 2-for-3 game along with Aubrey Johnson and Dee Emarthle, who hit her first home run of the year and drove in three runs.

Lexi Watson got the win against Oologah, pitching 3 and 1/3 innings with four hits, two strikeouts and no earned runs with rowland getting her first save of the season. Watson was 2-for-2 with a double, Carlee Gann was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Rowland, Kaitlin Kaiser and Nia Maxwell were each 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Sequoyah split on the day and had the tournament host on the ropes in the setback. The Lady Indians led Broken Arrow 3-0 before a five-run fifth decided a 5-3 outcome. Symphoni Shomo was 3-for 4 with three of her five doubles on the day. Megan Towie was 2-for-3 and Hayleigh Galvin singled in two of Sequoyah’s runs.

The Lady Indians (2-1) routed Putnam City North 12-1. Shomo doubled twice in three at-bats while Towie was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Sydney Smith and Rain Thompson were both 2-for-3.

Tahlequah (2-0) beat Choctaw 9-0. Hilldale lost to Sand Springs 4-1 and beat Berryhill 5-4 and at 2-1 on the year, will resume action at 12:30 p.m. against Yukon, followed by Glenpool and Edmond North.

Games were pushed back due to an early rain delay.
