Some get blemishes at Broken Arrow

The Muskogee Lady Roughers saw their spotless record come to an end on Saturday, falling to Broken Arrow 8-0 in their final game of the Broken Arrow Tournament.

The loss left Muskogee (6-1) at 2-1 on the day after beating Sapulpa 14-2 and Sequoyah 5-4 in its first two games.

“Our pool was extremely difficult with Edmond Deer Creek who’s a 5A state tournament team, Oologah who won Class 4A last year and Broken Arrow who’s one of the best teams in the state,” said MHS softball coach Keith Coleman. “We played well the entire weekend but just made too many mistakes against Broken Arrow.”

Against Sapulpa, Lexi Watson improved to 2-0 on the year, giving up just two hits and no earned runs while going 1-for-1 with two walks and one run batted in at the plate. Aubrey Johnson was 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs and Carlee Gann was 1-for-2 with one run scored and four RBIs all coming on a grand slam, her first home run of the season.

The game against Sequoyah was a nail-biter down to the end as the Lady Roughers rallied with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win. Bailee Hendrickson drove in both runs on a two-out single, making a winner of Shaylee Rowland in the circle. Symphoni Shomo led the way for the Lady Indians going 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Versus BA, Johnson, Brook Hendrickson, Rowland and Dee Emarthle each had a hit while Rowland (3-1) suffered her first loss of the season in the circle.

Tahlequah went 3-0 on the day with a 7-2 win over Owasso, 10-5 over Union and 3-0 against Inola. The Lady Tigers capped a 5-0 run in what wound up as a festival and are now 6-0 on the season.

Lindsay Wade got the win over Owasso while Morgan Tarrance got the victories in the circle against Union and Inola. Kortney Dry led the way for the Lady Tigers, going 5-for-9 with six RBIs on the day.

“We played really well this weekend,” said Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud. “We did a lot of things right. We had some unanswered spots and had some players settle into different positions. This will help us out when we get back to district play.”

In other action at the tournament, Hilldale went 3-0 on Saturday, beating Yukon 5-1, Glenpool 7-0 and Edmond North 3-1. Emily Dowdy earned the wins over Yukon and Edmond North, allowing five hits in each game, while Destiny Riddle threw her second shutout of the season to grab the win over Glenpool.

Riddle had two home runs on the day, a solo shot against Glenpool and a three-run bomb versus Edmond North. Kyle Ibarra also had a home run, a three-run shot against Glenpool.

“Emily did an outstanding job all day of locating pitches and competing in the circle for us,” said Hilldale coach Darren Riddle, Destiny’s father. “We are very proud her effort.”

Sequoyah split its other two games, falling to Edmond Deer Creek 2-1 and ending the day with a 9-0 win over Poteau.

Phillips tossed both games in the circle and evened her record at 3-3. Against Deer Creek, Hayleigh Galvan drove in the only run for the Lady Indians (3-3). Versus Poteau, Syndi Smith was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Baylee Ratliff was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Shomo was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Kelsey Leach scored a run and drove in one.
