Fort Gibson wins pair
The 4A No. 6 Lady Tigers had a flair for the dramatic in the Rogers State Festival, winning both games to move to 8-0 on the year.
After Madison Higley yielded a three-run home run in the fourth, Fort Gibson rallied from a three-run deficit to win 4-3 against No. 3 Oologah. Miranda Cherry’s sacrifice fly pushed across the winning run after the Lady Tigers immediately responded to the blast with two to tie matters. Mackenzie Williams was 3-for-3 with two doubles and Cherry along with Paige Stout each were 1-for-2. The home run was one of three hits off Higley, who struck out four.
Fort Gibson also got by Miami 2-0 with two runs in the seventh, one an RBI single by Williams. She along with Brea Jordan and Emily Rigsby were 2-for-4. Higley again tossed a three-hitter, this time a shutout and striking out seven in the process.
