Sequoyah 45, Okemah 13
At Tahlequah, Sequoyah's Zach Parrish was 11-for-18 with 188 yards passing with five touchdowns to lead the Indians, who were seeing their first action of the 2013 campaign with OSSAA sanctions barring them from preseason scrimmages.
Okemah got on the board first on the second play of the game with an 80-yard touchdown run by Tack Murray. But the Indians rolled back with 20 points to close the half. Justin Hooper scored on a one-yard carry, Parrish threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Caisen Green, then Nick Kingfisher scampered in from 35 yards out to make it 20-7 at the half.
Parrish hooked up with Kyle Sanders in the third quarter for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Okemah answered back with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Banta to Josh Whisenant. Parrish then connected on two touchdown passes, one to Green for 25-yard and the other to Cody Hooper from 49 yards out.
The Indians' final score came from Hunter Crow with a 48-yard run.
Depew 46, Porter 8
Gabe Gilbert scored the lone touchdown for the Pirates on a 2-yard run in the loss at Depew. Gilbert had 13 carries for 35 yards. Darius Steele also had 13 carries for 49 yards. Dean Van Bors had eight carries for 50 yards.
Colcord 19, Haskell 0
Haskell's Alex Wheeland was 6-for-15 for 36 yards passing with two interceptions. Wheeland was the leading rusher for the Haymakers as he had 18 carries for 47 yards. Tre Lang caught two passes for 19 yards to lead Haskell receivers.
Claremore Chr. 38, Boulevard Chr. 18
Sean Davis threw two touchdown passes on the night for the Knights, who fell to 0-2. Both passes were to Tanner Wade one for 37 yards and the other for 27. Tate Wade hooked up with Conner Sisco for the Knights only other score on a 4-yard pass.
Vian 32, Spiro 14
At Spiro, Vian's Eric Casey had 18 carries for 172 yards with touchdown runs of 61 and 5 yards. Rylee Simon had 13 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns along with one passing touchdown of 60 yards to Denver Coffey. Simon was 8-for-12 passing for 152 yards.
Yale 40, Hulbert 6
At Yale, Anthony Howard scored the Riders' only touchdown on the night on a 9-yard run. Brandon Thompson was 5-for-11 for 50 yards passing, and led all rushers with six carries for 35 yards. Terri Cook caught all five of Thompson’s completions.
Checotah 21, Morris 15
Quarterback Caleb Knight ran for a one-yard touchdown and tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Cody Cox as the Checotah Wildcats opened the season with a win at Morris.
Keaton Donathan added a five-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats in coach Chad Hendricks’ debut as Checotah’s head coach.
The Wildcats also had two touchdowns nullified by penalties. Drew Dan had a 30-yard touchdown catch and 70-yard punt return called back.
