CLASS 5A EAST — Tahlequah's Lain Wright had 21 points, but it wasn't enough to carry the Tigers to an upset over Class 5A No. 14 Chickasha on Friday night. The Tigers suffered a 56-53 loss and were eliminated from the 5A playoffs.
E.J. Golightly led Chickasha with 21 points, and Joey Sylvester chipped in with 17 points for the Fighting Chicks (14-9). Tahlequah's season ends at 8-16.
In a game that featured eight lead changes and four ties, the Tigers had one last chance to tie the game, but a wide-open 3-point look by Kourtland McMillan was missed. Then, with three-tenths of a second left, Tahlequah's inbounds pass was batted away to end the game.
For Tahlequah, Jake Vader added nine points and 14 rebounds. Datious Dufur countered for Chickasha with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
CLASS 3A AREA I – The Haskell Haymakers survived a nip-and-tuck battle with Pawhuska to advance in the consolation bracket by beating the Huskies 53-46 in Beggs on Friday.
The Haymakers (9-15) led 38-37 at the half and managed to stay ahead of Pawhuska and will play Okmulgee at 8 p.m. Saturday in Okmulgee in a consolation semifinal. The Beggs regional started Friday due to travel issues related to the winter weather of Thursday.
Michael Love led Haskell with 14 points while Alex Wheeland and Dillon Dobbins had 12 points each.
CLASS 3A AREA III — At Okmulgee, Eufaula was eliminated by Adair 49-48. The Ironheads’ cause was hurt at the free-throw line where they were outscored 18-2. Cody Faries had 18 points and Forrest Paden and Devin Garfield had 11 points each.
In the Verdigris sub-regional, Vian remained alive beating Newkirk 45-41 with a solid defensive effort to slow Newkirk. Shane Ross had 18 points and Shawn Troutman had 10 as the Wolverines move to Muskogee Civic Center for a regional semifinal against Heavener. Both the Civic Center and Verdigris sites were delayed a day by Thursday’s weather issues
CLASS 2A AREA III — At Mounds, the Hulbert Riders watched their season end in a 71-53 loss to Oklahoma Union. The Riders (14-12) were led by Parker Taylor and Mason Fielden, each with 17 points, and Craig Potts with 13.
