Area prep sports briefs

All-State soccer rosters released

The rosters for the All-State soccer games have been released and the Muskogee area will have 13 players on the rosters.

Making the 6A squad was Morgan Springborn from Muskogee High School on the girls squad while Muskogee’s David Espinoza, the 2014 All-Phoenix Offensive Player of the Year, is on the boys team.

In Class 5A, Tahlequah High School will have Sam Chaffin, Rachel Brown and Kalie Champlain on the girls team with Saul Medina suiting up for the boys.

On the Class 4A squad, Fort Gibson has the most representatives with five players on the two teams. On the girls will be Brooke Benham and Shelby Nichols while Zach Cobler, Daniel Mielnik and Zach Peterson made the boys team.

Also on the 4A girls team is Hilldale’s Leah Gragg, the 2014 All-Phoenix Offensive Player of the Year, along with Breanna Scott from Keys and Mikayla Taylor from Wagoner.

The games will be played at Indian Bowl June 12-14. The 4A girls game will kick off at 6 p.m. June 12 followed by the boys game. The 5A games will be June 13 and 6A games June 14, with starting times the same as the 4A games.

All-Region for baseball named

Tahlequah catcher Austin Riley, Checotah catcher/infielder Caleb Knight and infielder Wyatt Hatridge, Keys catcher Micah Allison and infielder Austin Tarver, Stigler first baseman Austan Drewry and outfielder Seth Sandlin, Eufaula pitcher/first baseman Trey Moore, Vian pitcher Jon Andrews and Wagoner pitcher Tyler Milligan were selected Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Region on Monday.

Knight was the All-Phoenix MVP and was joined on that team by Hatridge, Moore, Andrews, Tarver and Milligan.  OCA honorees are seniors only.

No area players were selected to the All-State game.
