Published May 17, 2008 06:21 pm - THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Time for new mayor to resign, serve city The electorate has spoken. It has decided that its mayor should be a person who has never owned a home, never run a business, never held a “real” job, never paid any significant taxes.
John Tyler Hammons: In the near future, when the excitement over your recent election victory begins to fade, it will become apparent you are not mature enough to be an effective mayor. This inevitable conclusion will become obvious to the city manager, City Council and the general public in the very near future. As immature as you are, you may not recognize this developing lack of confidence until it is too late. As a concerned citizen, let me be the first to ask you to resign now and let the council appoint an adult to serve out this term. I realize that finishing your term of office would be a great addition to your first resume. I am asking that you put the interests of your community above your own. Someday you will have a job, own a home and pay taxes. Someday these experiences, and many others, may prepare you to serve your community as an elected public official. Please do not allow your pride and the poor judgment of those who voted for you hinder the progress of this community at this critical time. Stephen D'Agostino Muskogee
