Published July 02, 2009 03:45 pm - THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Where does senator stand on health care? A dismal picture was given in a recent government report released about health care quality in our state. It was rated as “weak” while Oklahoma families are paying 77 percent more in health insurance premiums since 2000.
In states across the country, families are struggling with these costs and trying to get the quality care they need and deserve, says our secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius. High costs keep at least 17 percent of our fellow Oklahomans from visiting a doctor. Nearly 30 percent of middle-income Oklahomans spend more than 10 percent of their income on health care although nearly 20 percent remain uninsured. Our health should not be a commodity to sell like any ordinary product on the market. We must ensure that no more of our fellow Americans die because of corporate bureaucracy and greed. The time for change is now! Ask Sen. Tom Coburn where he stands on health care reform for everyone. Is he standing with the people or with those who profit from the prices we pay for poor quality care? Ann Mocha Kent Tulsa
