THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Casinos don’t provide Oklahoma prosperity

July 14, 2008 04:30 pm

My father always told me if anything in our community is wrong, then it is up to me to do something about it.
I see a terrible thing happening to the people of Oklahoma, and that terrible thing is the 96-plus casinos we have in the state owned by the Native American tribes.
Who regulates these casinos?
Numerous bankruptcy attorneys will tell you that over 50 percent of the bankruptcy filings are caused by people who have gotten in debt because of their addictions to the casinos. My cousin (a full-blood Cherokee female) and numerous others do not approve of the casinos and the reputation they are giving the Native American tribes who own them.
