Published July 17, 2008 06:01 pm - THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Mayor’s excuse doesn’t ring true To Mayor John Tyler Hammons: Why did you apologize for accepting employment and an expensive gift from a local merchant? After all, it isn’t illegal and you weren’t trying to hide it.
I’m sure that most local car dealers are offering recent high school graduates positions with their sales teams. There must be at least a dozen “demonstration vehicles” around town being driven by teenaged pre-employed car salesman. The dealership in question probably didn’t even know you are associated with the City of Muskogee. The people of Muskogee all know you would never use your elected position for personal gain. Stephen D’Agostino Muskogee Obama pro-choice, McCain pro-life With all the talk about McCain versus Obama and the effect the winner will have on our way of life, I don’t hear much about their differences on abortion. McCain has a strong pro-life voting record during his career in the Senate. He has consistently opposed abortion on scores of votes. Obama has compiled a pro-abortion voting record. He voted against legislation prohibiting taxpayer funds from being used to pay for abortions. He voted to block a bill that would have required an abortion doctor to notify one parent before performing an abortion on a minor from another state.
