John McCain is upset with Gen. Wesley Clark’s comments about his military service.
I can see Clark’s point. If being a prisoner of war qualified you for the presidency, perhaps the detainees at Guantánamo Bay should run for office. A POW does not a president make.
But what really stands out to me in this matter is where McCain was when President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove were discrediting the outstanding military career of Sen. John Kerry.
Where was McCain when Republicans were slandering Sen. Max Cleland, who lost three limbs in Vietnam?
Oh yeah, McCain was on the campaign trail snuggling up to America’s most prominent draft dodger, George W. Bush.
