Published August 26, 2008 04:51 pm - THE PEOPLE SPEAK: City should not allow dog sales in parking lots This is in response to Pat Adair’s Aug. 19 letter.
Linda K. Lee is one of the finest people I know, and she has spent her life dedicating her time to the welfare of animals. I agree with her on all counts of these poor defenseless puppies being peddled in the heat of the day, or any other time as far as that goes. If you are a reputable puppy breeder, why do you have to try to make your bucks in a parking lot? Are you ashamed of your kennel? I was at Petco on Aug. 16, and again two more peddlers are out trying to sell puppies on the Petco parking lot. Please people, let’s put a stop to this. These people will tell you anything to sell a puppy. “Oh, they’ve been wormed and had shots.” How do you know? There are so many homeless puppies and dogs who need homes, and often as not, they turn out to be better dogs than kennel-raised dogs. Lee is a fine example of a person who has adopted many homeless dogs and they are the most well-behaved animals I have ever seen, many of them purebred dogs. Before your heart tells you to stop and buy a “parking lot” puppy, go to PAWS and take a look. They have many well taken-care of animals to adopt, and it will do your heart good to know you are helping to stop the peddling of poor defenseless puppies hardly old enough to be sold, much less, from a heated parking lot. If you’ve never experienced the love that an adopted homeless dog can give, you are missing something. They do know you have rescued them, and they will give that love back a hundredfold. If you are as concerned about this as much as Linda and I am, call the property owner, a store manager, and let’s get these people out of the parking lots. They are just puppy mills on wheels.
