What a chance we had to make a statement against the policies of President Bush, a chance to say no, thank you, to domestic surveillance, the death penalty and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Our church is against all three.
Nevertheless, delegates to our Methodist South Central Jurisdictional Conference rejected a petition to block construction of the proposed George W. Bush Presidential Library at the Dallas campus of Southern Methodist University. SMU is leasing 36 acres for the library, museum and independent policy institute. The church has no business subsidizing a political, ideological point of view. A much better location for the Bush think tank was suggested by comedian Argus Hamilton, who grew up in Ponca City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma: “OU is a school built with oil where students love to party and every Saturday brings on a new war. Is there a better place to build the George W. Bush Presidential Library?” Virginia Blue Jeans Jenner Wagoner
