THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Flagpoles sure taking long time to go up

I have been driving by once in a while to see how the city is coming along on installation of flag poles at the Civic Center.

Whoops, somebody goofed and didn’t check where water lines were and we had a horrific accident. Now they had to repair “accidental water line breakage” and that delayed the installation of the poles.

What next? Will they heed signs posted all over Muskogee, “Check before digging?”

The Blue Star Mothers, veterans, Women’s Auxiliary, motorcycle clubs, Rolling Thunder and concerned residents are watching to see how long this is going to take, to get the POW-MIA flag flying.

So my question is “How much longer?”

We will rise again if need be.

I want to thank Mayor Hammons for assisting Nancy Ellis and me in the ceremony at the VA Medical Center on POW-MIA Remembrance Day. He read and explained what the Table and Empty Chair Ceremony represented as Nancy Ellis set the table and I was honored in placing the POW-MIA drape over the empty chair.

I guess it’s time to take another look-see at the Civic Center and check out the progress. While I’m at it here, can someone explain to me how our government works? City or otherwise?

My understanding is Congress has the final say-so, so isn’t city government the same way? The mayor has no authority, so where does the blame lie when there are goof ups? If this is so, why is our mayor always getting the blame?

Chew on that piece of fat for a while.

Pat Davis
