I have always believed a Christian was honest

I am 58 years old and have degenerative arthritis in my spine and receive SSI. I live in a small mobile home and have one child, a 33-year-old single mother of four boys. She is fighting breast cancer.

I went to stay with them in McAlester to help her and my grandsons through her chemo treatments. The landlord sold her rental out from under her, and she had to move to Eufaula to my mobile. When we started the move, I found the roof leaked, and the water had pooled at the bottom of the baseboards between the walls and rotted parts of the floor.

I put an ad in the paper for a handyman to help with those repairs and turn part of the back porch into a bedroom.

A young man in his early 30s, proclaiming to be a devout Christian, was hired to do the repairs. I had to borrow $4,000 to get the work done and buy supplies. He assured me not to worry, that he was a good Christian.

When he said he was done, I had questions about the repairs, and he said he would be back in a a couple of days to finish the projects. I went ahead and paid him the $2,000 we agreed.

He left and never came back. My roof still leaked and the home was in as bad shape then as it was before he began.

My home is not livable due to the leakage.

My mother has let us stay with her, but is demanding we leave Nov. 1, because my daughter doesn’t have the money to help on bills and will be going through reconstructive surgery. She had a double mastectomy last year.

The transmission went out on my van right before Christmas last year, and I spent all my extra money trying to get it fixed. (Another Christian man offered help, and it ended up being worse than before.)

Maybe another Christian can come and take what little I have left.
