THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Where did champions of peoples’ rights go?

Well folks, time for me to get on my “soapbox” again. We lose praying in the school, then comes no spanking our children, then they tell us what to feed our kids, then they let drunk drivers go, but come down hard on smoking, and now our almighty governor wants to ban e-cigs from federal and leased property. What is she going to do next?

I’m surprised she hasn’t tried to get rid of “smoke shacks” at the VAMCs. (Whisper that sentence when you read it, she might hear you.) Wonder where our politicians go to smoke? Surely not on government property. Bet they have booze on government property, reckon?

Then how about “The Cost of Living Raise?” Federal government gives us a raise and the state steps up and takes it away from us, and federal government raises premium on Medicare, insurance goes higher, and medicine becomes more expensive. We used to have “champions” on the hill, that would fight for the peoples’ rights! What has happened there? Where did they go?

I, for one, am about ready to declare my independence and go independent! But that one has been labeled a party too, so where do you go next? “The disgusted party?” It’s not “By the People,” nor is it “Of the People,” and it most assuredly is not “For the People,” so who is it for, anymore? “The people” have no say in our government anymore! So where do we go now?

While I’m on my soapbox, check out the reputations of our candidates for City Council. I am in Ward IV, and I have. Sorry Dean, but you won’t have my vote.
