Thank you — 05.17.14

I WOULD LIKE to announce that Muskogee High School is fortunate to host the OSCA Soccer All-State Games at Indian Bowl June 12 (4A), June 13 (5A), and June 14 (6A). Girls games begin at 6 p.m. and boys games begin at 8 p.m. The games will feature the best senior players in state in a classic East vs. West matchup. David Espinoza (All District first team) was selected to represent the Roughers. This is an awesome opportunity to showcase the district, program, facility, and community.

Other notables: Ramon Gutierrez (All-State Honorable Mention, All District First Team); Ernesto Martinez (All-State Honorable Mention, All District First Team); Jose Hernandez (All-State Honorable Mention, All District First Team); Shay Hoog (All State Honorable Mention); Carlos Martinez (All District First team); Jose Villeda (All-District First team); Chase Soper (All District Second Team); Alex Sharp (All District Second Team); Team Academic Certificate with a GPA 3.28. Please congratulate these young men.

I want to personally thank all of you for your support for me, my family, these boys and this program. The boys were able to turn around a 3-7 (0-7 in district) season from last year and go 7-4 (5-2 in district) finishing third and making the playoffs and traveling to Jenks. This year’s team changed the program for the positive. We are sending six young men to college to play soccer, one on a cheer scholarship, one on a band scholarship, and one to the U.S. Army. Great day to be a Rougher!!

I WOULD LIKE to take this opportunity to thank student-athletes, teachers, administrators and school support staff for the encouragement and support throughout this year’s soccer season. The young ladies on the team obtained their first district win in several years and played some teams down to the wire in heartbreaking losses.

This year the team gained a lot of maturity playing in a tough district with teams like Jenks, Owasso, Bishop Kelley and Broken Arrow and still managed to keep all their games respectable. We will graduate 11 seniors who definitely contributed a lot to this program.

Morgan Springborn was elected to the 6A East All-State Team. She will attend Upper Iowa University on an academic and athletic scholarship. Paige Logsdon was selected as Honorable Mention All-State and First Team All-District. This fall she will attend NEO in Miami to play soccer. Ashlie Tull was selected as Honorable Mention All-State and plans to attend Northeastern State University in the fall.

Second Team All-District Honorees: Dian Brown (ninth), Madison Blair (10th) and Fantashia Jarrett (12th).

The team as a whole has an overall GPA of 3.57 and will be honored by the OSSAA for their outstanding academic accomplishment. Several of the girls were also named to the All-Conference Academic Team as well.
