THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Focus on infrastructure, not facility’s moving

This is my first and last letter to the editor. In fact, I prayed about whether to write it. As a concerned citizen that does vote, I want to express my concern regarding the authorities’ agonizing struggle about moving the Juvenile Detention Center.

My guess is that 75 percent of the people that drive by don’t know what the facility is anyway and another 80 percent don’t give a “big rat’s rear end” if it’s moved or stays.

Beautify and landscape the facility with some nice trees and make it a plus instead of a minus. It won’t stop developing the area.

Developing the south side of the street can’t look any worse than the “conglomerated mish-mesh” across the street. That’s a prime example that long-term experienced planning should be done.

Save the estimated $300,000 for moving and rebuilding the facility and apply the $300,000 to improving the potholes in the streets.

Good infrastructure will do more good to entice commerce and industry than wasting money in moving the Juvenile Detention Center.
