THE PEOPLE SPEAK —We can say what we think, feel, believe

Without divulging my age, this writer can remember when we only had radios, gasoline was 32 cents per gallon, stores closed Friday evening and did not open until Monday morning, there were no winter wind chill or heat index weather readings, radio programming ceased at midnight and resumed at 6 a.m., we made ice cream by breaking ice in a gunny sack with the flat side of an ax, and our readers were titled “Dick and Jane.”

Now, purveyors of imprinted plastic cards inundate nearly every phase of our lives.

Computers beam any answer to any question we ask them. Television has shown us the earth from outer space. And, yes, hackers have stolen and compromised our private communication to their advantage.

But there is one thing that has not changed.

And that is you and I can reach down deep in our respective souls and say what we think, feel, and believe as unique individuals, as spiritual beings, and, as children of God. And everybody says Amen.

CHARLES LILE
