THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Local newspapers provide vital link

Throughout Oklahoma, the local newspaper remains a vital link for citizens to learn about their community and their government.

While there is much information available online, the community newspaper is uniquely able to show how national or even world stories affect us on a local level. Newspapers understand their readership and can see the connection of big stories to small towns.

Local newspapers are also key players in our local economies — providing jobs and facilitating commerce in their communities and beyond.

October 6-12 is National Newspaper Week, observing the importance of newspapers to communities both large and small.

From our team to the staffs at each of the local newspapers throughout the Second District, we thank you for the job you are doing to keep your readers informed about their government. We know that in some communities there is one reporter that covers everything from politics to sports! We commend you for doing the best job you can with the resources that you have, while always looking for the local impact. Please keep up the good work on behalf of your readers.
