THE PEOPLE SPEAK — 25 years in Congress is enough for Pelosi

— The best way to determine if a member of Congress should be retired, is to be a mystery caller to the office of “The Honorable.”

I tried it on the Washington D.C. office of the U.S. House of Representatives minority leader, Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

I was treated so cold I felt like a homeless bum on the streets of Pelosi’s hometown, San Francisco. Call number one, I asked to talk to someone about how she voted on the farm bill. I was switched to an answering machine. Call number two, I called back and asked to speak to a live person. I got the answering machine, again. Call number three, I called back again and said “Listen, I want to talk to a live person. I teach in a Title One elementary school whose funds are being cut. My students go to bed hungry. Any Democrat who votes for a farm bill that cuts food stamps is no Democrat.” My phone went dead.

My one room schoolhouse teacher mama, Louise Cooper Dennis, taught me this lesson, “Virginia, there are two absolutes in life. Be a Methodist and be a Democrat.”

So this “yellow dog Democrat” says that after 25 years in Congress, “Fancy Nancy” has been kowtowed to long enough. The voters should hang up on her and her “blue dogs” in 2014.
