After reading a recent letter to the editor asking why Muskogee Habitat for Humanity had not built any houses of late, I thought I could comment as I have had much connection to that activity over several years.
In 2011 the Habitat president told me that she had looked at the files related to the applications for new homes and the files were not done properly and that Habitat would not start any new homes until the files were corrected. The files must have been pretty bad since that happened going on three years ago.
Certainly money was not a problem as they had free cash of well over $150,000 when I was discharged as the bookkeeper in 2012, this amount of cash was no secret since financial information was then distributed at each board meeting.
Applications for new board members must also be a problem as repeated requests from past board members to rejoin have been ignored or refused. Most recently a group of applicants including past board members and a past president were refused.
Muskogee Habitat for Humanity by-laws require a minimum of 12 board members and a maximum of 24. I have seen a list recently and there were fewer than 12 members. Does Muskogee Habitat have problems?
