THE PEOPLE SPEAK — There are positive stories here, too

During the past year there have been several news articles and pictures of young black men’s picture on the front page of the Phoenix. All which featured negative articles about their behaviors. It seems to be a way of reporting across the nation and in television news. After all, newspapers sell when it’s more negative than positive. We know your goal is to sell.

During the past month there were activities that had a positive outcome by some very positive black owned businesses in Muskogee. The Brooks brothers put on a back to school party in Elliot Park. The turnout was great. The kids had a wonderful time and many gifts were given away with backpacks for kids and many other gifts given. There was not one Phoenix reporter there to cover this wonderful occasion with a positive slant.

This isn’t addressed to say that negative activity of our young men should be overlooked. It is simply asking that more attention be given to those that are doing good in our neighborhood. Bad news will come to you. Get out and find the good. There are many, many good black men in Muskogee doing positive things.
