THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Political leaders in search of Excalibur

A strange, ironic, almost equivocal thing happened on the way to the summit of the meeting of some current political leaders on their quest to find the Excalibur sword stuck in the rock of truth and veracity. Try as hard as they could to try and pull it out, but they could not. They searched all the previous records of those who spoke truthfulness and honesty but they found only wisps and excerpts of “Mr. Smith goes to Washington.”

Sadly they huddled around the rock murmuring among themselves. Then, all of a sudden, they heard the booming voice of an old venerable, reputable, respected former legislator in clear and crisp tones, resonating through the halls and chambers of Congress saying, “Forget your ego and selfishness and remember the admonishments of those who sent you there with genuine and sincere instructions to represent them honestly and truthfully, no matter what.” With tears and hearts beating they touched the sword and felt a slight vibration. Together they put their minds and voices in unison once more on the blade and felt again a tremor of movement.

The rock began to crack and release its hold on the sword. They knelt on the ground; made a pact and took an oath. “We will speak the truth honestly and without reservation about our responsibility to be worthy of the voters who sent us here.” Then with a shout heard around the city, they held the sword high and marched back to their seats.
