THE PEOPLE SPEAK — We deserve better Post Office building

To those of you who use our United States Post Office building located at 525 W. Okmulgee in Muskogee, I have some observations.

I have learned to avoid the trash container blocking the front door which, I assume, protects the West half of the broken door to the mail entrance. I have also become used to the landscaping of old rocks behind a brick facade, as well as the purported shrubbery which has failed to have any attention in a great number of years. I have never seen a post office landscape in this bad of shape anywhere in our country.

I can’t understand why there is constantly litter around the east and main doors, and I don’t see anyone who cares enough to help clean it up. I have learned the best way to avoid potholes when pulling into the limited parking places at the front of the building since they have been there for the past 40 years, as has the same rundown disgraceful facade.

I have also learned where the water spouts drain water from the roof onto the sidewalk and how to get in and our of the post office without getting sopping wet. I want to wish you good luck on doing the same when it rains again. Once entering the building, the floor tiles haven’t been repaired or replaced in years, the ceiling tiles are stained with water damage and in disrepair.

Those of you who worry about the image of Muskogee need look no further than to our U.S. Post Office building. ... We do not deserve such a derelict building to serve as United States Post Office in the city of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Something to think about.
