THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Dogs should not be running loose

— Recently there has been news regarding the breed of pit bull dogs. I would like here to make public my personal experience with them.

Each morning between 7 to 7:30 a.m., I take my dog outside in our own yard to do his “business.” On the morning in question, in process of this chore, my dog, a less than 20-pound chiweenie, spots two pit bull dogs in the block to the west of us. At the same time they spot us too and start charging ahead directly at me, not at my dog, whereupon my dog charges at them. Next, one dog turns to his right and disappears out of sight.

The other one continues charging. My dog ran after him then and chased him to the opposite block turning south and out of sight. My dog then returned to me and back inside our house.

I was so relieved that my dog had protected me from what could have been a tragedy. This incident happened only minutes before school children would have been in the streets to get on their buses for school.

As soon as my dog and I came back inside I called 911 to report this to police. The woman answering asked me if the dogs were “acting aggressive.” Whether they were or not, they should not have been running loose by themselves.

Thank you Muskogee Phoenix for allowing me to tell my experience.
