THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Corporate agreement dangerous to public

— Neither Congress nor the public are allowed behind the closed doors where 600 U.S. corporations are negotiating the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) granting new rights for offshoring our jobs, limiting both Wall Street oversight and food-safety protections, raising medicine prices, and exposing us to corporate attacks before foreign tribunals demanding compensation in our tax dollars simply because they decline to abide by our laws.

Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D-Ohio) 21st Century Trade Agreements Act demands that U.S. trade agreements promote the public interest, not just those of corporations like ExxonMobil and Pfizer.

Our senators should be urged to co-sponsor such legislation and our press should be doing more to inform both the public and Congress of the potentially devastating consequences of the TPP.
