THE PEOPLE SPEAK — Clean your mess before enforcing ordinace

I’m sitting here reading the Sunday edition of the Muskogee Phoenix and what do I see on the Opinion page. An article that has twice been in the paper about homeowners should heed ordinance. I live on the corner of Sallie and Indiana. For over the past five years the city has attempted to fix a water leak that is on the south side of my house. They’ve been out here at least twice this year.

The first time they had a front end loader that dug up about 15 feet of the street. They flooded my yard so bad it was almost up to my ankles and then they had a dump truck bring gravel in. The second time they dug it back up and left a big hole and the cover wouldn’t stay so you had to drive around it. This meant more gravel in my ditch. They said they were waiting on a piece of pipe to come in so they could replace the whole thing. That’s been over two months ago.

My ditch is full of blacktop, gravel, and clumps of mud that it causing us to have mosquitoes so bad and the smell is terrible. Am I suppose to hire someone to come clean my ditch out now so it will drain properly and bill the city or maybe I should fine the city $1,000 for the mess in my drainage ditch? My point is how can the city enforce this code violation when they left this mess beside my house.
