THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Watch out for potential scams

When she comes over to your house with her two children to borrow $20 because they need it for some school outing and she forgot to get it from their father, tell her you will call the school and find out who to make a check out to, do not give her cash. She will disappear from your doorstep. When she comes over and wants to use your bathroom because her water is off, tell her yours is too. When she leaves her house, go over and turn on her outside water hydrant and watch the water flow. After all, you may have some kind of prescription drugs in your bathroom.

When she comes over and wants to “borrow” water in a large container, tell her to go to your hydrant because while you’re busy with her container she can slip into your bedroom where your purse is. When she needs money for bread and milk, tell her you will go to McDonald’s and get them food. Even if her kids do not like McDonald’s. When she comes over to sell tickets for some school thing, tell her again you will call the school and find out who to make the check out to, not her. I could go on forever.

Business people in the neighborhood, beware. She likes to collect money for things like water for Moore, Oklahoma after the disaster. She has a relative who has a life altering disease and has tried to collect money for this person. She has a way of getting numbers off credit cards and will ask you to use the numbers on your machine to get food for her children. She will say she has lost her card. You will believe her because she has made friends with you. No, be smarter than her. She tries to bring back things and wants cash.

Like I said before, I could go on forever. Always refuse her with a smile. She is still in my neighborhood, but she may be coming to yours next.
