THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Sen. Inhofe not affected by Great Depression

Sen. Jim Inhofe said in a radio interview with WABC’s Aaron Klein that “I probably wouldn’t be here if I was insured under Obamacare.” He goes on to tell how he was able to get his open heart surgery fast, while at his age if he were under this program, he would probably have to have waited six months or more and be dead.

Sen. Inhofe’s statement and his additional comment that he will do whatever “it takes to fight for Obamacare to be defunded and repealed” have angered me and many others. Some have said that if he were one of the 40 million uninsured, or wasn’t on the elite Congress health plan and able to get priority for his early surgery, he also could have been dead.

I’m a registered Democrat and have voted for Senator Inhofe in the past because I respected him. I would never vote for him again or probably any other Republican, especially those responsible for the shutdown and near-disaster of a default.

Sen. Inhofe and I are old enough to remember the Great Depression, but evidently he was not affected by it like I and many others were. I starved and didn’t have the medical services needed for extremely severe childhood diseases. I saw relatives and neighbors suffer and die hungry and without adequate medical services, and this still bothers me a lot. I can not understand anyone not wanting people to have food and adequate medical services.

I’m a disabled Korean combat veteran and angry that many of our elected officials do not adequately support needed veteran services, and these were also affected by the shutdown. Sen. Inhofe has always been very supportive of veterans, and I respect and thank him for that. I cannot forgive him and the extremists for the shutdown.
