THE PEOPLE SPEAK – ACLU wrong, Alred sentence appropriate

In response to Dec. 4 front page article “Church order draws A.C.L.U.” This report states District Judge Mike Norman sentenced Tyler Alred, the man who pleaded guilty in the Dec. 3, 2011 crash that claimed the life of John Luke Dum, to 10 years probation plus 10 years of church attendance.

This situation brings to my mind a statement made by J. Edgar Hoover, Federal Bureau of Investigations Director from 1924 to 1972. He stated, “A child brought up in church seldom is brought up in court.”

Although my sympathy goes to the Dum family for their horrific loss, I fail to see where the A.C.L.U. or anyone else can find fault with Judge Norman’s decision.

In my opinion the A.C.L.U. needs to take a flying leap on this one. I have never known the A.C.L.U. to act in the true spirit of American justice. Rather, they stir up trouble for nothing more than publicity.
