Democrats learn about candidates By D. E. SmootPhoenix Staff Writer McPeak, making a plug for Edwards, said he supported the candidate’s first presidential bid in 2000 and is supporting him again in 2008.
“The reason I’m backing him is because he was the best then, and I think he is the best now,” McPeak said. “If you’re riding a good horse, stay on that horse.” McPeak said he sees Edwards as the working-class guy, a person who can relate to Oklahomans and from where they come. U.S. Rep. Dan Boren, D-Muskogee, also made an appearance at the Muskogee County Democrats’ meeting. Boren, who has yet to draw an opponent, said he is planning to open his Muskogee campaign office during the next month. While Boren didn’t advocate for any particular presidential candidate, he said he was proud of the field of Democratic hopefuls. “Whoever your candidate is, I think we should feel lucky about the field we have,” Boren said. “All these people bring great things to the table.” Reach D.E.
