Muskogee County Board of Commissioners at a glance

At its regular meeting Monday, the Muskogee County Board of Commissioners approved:

• Changing the scope of a Community Development Block Grant project for Muskogee County Rural Water District 3, which serves the Council Hill area. The original $250,000 grant was for the purchase and installation of 30,000 feet of water line and a master meter. The line was to be run to Checotah’s water lines, and Council Hill was going to purchase water from the town. Instead, water district officials now plan to upgrade their treatment plant and continue using it at a cot of $1.2 million, said Kevin Wilson of Eastern Oklahoma Development District. The water district is seeking additional funding through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and Oklahoma Rural Development.

• Resolution to allow cities, towns and school districts in Muskogee County to include their hazard mitigation plan with the FEMA-approved county plan. Rachelle Miller of EODD said towns of less than 5,000 population and school districts may qualify for $10,000 grants if they include their plan in the county plan.

• Disposal of calculators by County Clerk’s Office.

• Tabling action on final structure of 911 joint authority between the city of Muskogee and the county.

• Appointment of 911 authority board members: Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson; Dexter Payne, chairman of Board of Commissioners; Joe Hughart, Fort Gibson chief of police; Terry Thompson, Warner chief of police; and Shannan Pardue, Haskell mayor.

• Approving District Attorney’s relinquishment of property at 412 Court St., to county. Commissioner Gene Wallace said any county office using the property would have to make the change revenue neutral.

• Approving transfer of equipment from the District Attorney’s Annex at 412 Court St., to the Sheriff’s Office. Equipment includes desks, chairs, other furniture, computer equipment and other items.

• Tabling action on purchase of pumper-tanker truck for Porum Volunteer Fire Department. Three bids were received: Good Hope Fire Apparatus, $145,300; Neel and Associates Inc., $229,929; and Chief Fire and Supply, $207,929.

Commissioners asked for a ruling from the District Attorney’s Office as to whether bid specifications must include financing options.
