A two-vehicle crash on old U.S. 69 that sent two men to the hospital was caused by drunk driving according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper’s report.
Albert McElhaney of Muskogee was northbound at about 6:45 p.m. on old U.S. 69 in a 1995 GMC pickup when Bobby Lee Edwards of Rentiesville, southbound in a 1982 Chevrolet pickup, crossed the centerline and collided with McElhaney. The cause of the accident was alcohol-impaired driving by Edwards, according to the OHP report.
Both men were pinned in their vehicles and had to be freed by the Checotah Fire Department.
Edwards was transported by helicopter to St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa with leg, arm and head injuries. McElhaney was transported to Muskogee Regional Medical Center with arm, leg, trunk and internal injuries. Both men were stable when admitted, according to the report.
