OSRC commissioners at odds over poultry case brief By D. E. SmootPhoenix Staff Writer Edmondson said the application of additional poultry litter poses an imminent threat to the environment and those who live and recreate within the Illinois River watershed. The poultry industry alleges the state’s concerns are inflated and based upon “junk science.”
Either way, Hilsher said Stubblefield and Randall were wrong to file the motion and supporting brief in their official capacities as Oklahoma Scenic Rivers commissioners. “Frankly I do not believe that a Scenic River Commissioner should be using that designation ... against the interests of the state,” Hilsher said. “It is especially wrong when it comes across in its title that it is somehow the action of the Commission as a whole.” Stubblefield criticized his colleague in an e-mail response to Hilsher. “As to Gerald's complaint that Steve and I should not have the right to comment on the proceedings as individual Scenic Rivers Commissioners, that is laughable,” Stubblefield said. “Stakeholders have been defined by Gerald in the past as citizens of the state of Oklahoma, now he wants to define stakeholders as only voters as defined in Scenic Rivers Election rules.” Stubblefield and Randall filed the motion, brief and supporting documents on behalf of landowners in Adair and Delaware counties, the jurisdictions represented respectively by the two commissioners.
