Natural livestock production topic of CSC workshop
WARNER — Connors State College and the Kerr Center will sponsor a “Natural Livestock Production, Care, and Marketing Workshop” here March 29.
The USDA Risk Management Agency is a partner in the workshop.
The workshop is being held in response to the demand for goat meat and grass-fed beef in the marketplace. The workshop will deal with raising pasture-fed beef and goat meat and selling it to consumers who want “natural” meats in their diets.
It will be held in the CSC Westbrook Livestock Learning Center Auditorium.
Speakers will include experienced ranchers, livestock specialists, and veterinarians from Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. They include Donna Reynolds, risk management specialist, USDA; Jon Taggart, Burgundy Pasture Beef; Dr. Ann Wells, Springpond Holistic Animal Health; Ron Morrow, rancher, Ozark Pasture Beef, NRCS State Grazing Lands Specialist for Arkansas; Dr. David Sparks, area Extension food-animal quality health specialist, Oklahoma State University; Mary Penick, Pineywoods cattle manager, Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture, Poteau; Blake Nelson, director farm operations, agriculture instructor, Connors State College; Dr. Donnie Nero, president, Connors State College; and Dr. Jim Horne, president/CEO, Kerr Center, Poteau.
The workshop will start at 8 a.m. and continue until 5:30 p.m. Lunch is from noon-1 p.m.
Registration fee is $50 ($85 for a couple or two from the same farm or business). Registration deadline is March 24. Checks should be made out to the Kerr Center and mailed to: Kerr Center, Natural Livestock Workshop, P.O, Box 588, Highway 271 South, Poteau, OK., 74953.
