The adopted rules also limit the maximum capacity of ice chests. The original language limited ice chests to 48-quart capacity. The language was amended upon the suggestion of one commercial float operator who said 50-quart ice chests are more commonly available. The new rules regulating alcohol began to take shape in 2006 after a raucous Memorial Day weekend sparked concerns about the drunken and violent behavior exhibited by some river enthusiasts. Problems declined during the 2007 float season after commissioners began debating the new rules regarding alcohol consumption. Fite said he expects no problems during the review process.
