Songwriter, musician featured at Songfest

Songwriter and musician Don White and his band will be featured guests at the Muskogee Songfest at 6 p.m. today at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame and Museum, 401 S. Third St.

White is considered by many as one of the originators and perpetuators of the Tulsa Sound. One critic described White’s music as a “blend of rhythm and blues, country blues, honky-tonk shuffle and rock ’n’ roll with a kind of hard-bitten optimism.”

The concert also will include performances by 10 finalists in the 2008 Muskogee Songwriting Contest: Scott Ward of Muskogee, Jeremy Hart of Muskogee, David Howell of Muskogee, Jamie Saunders of Tulsa, Ted Aukerman of Muskogee, Bob Cockle of Muskogee, Rod A. Graham of Quapaw, E. Eugene Brown of Muskogee, Eric Coates of Porter, and Cary Lawson of Haskell.

White, musician and songwriter Kenny Cornell of Broken Arrow, and music producer and promoter Vernon Sandusky of Edna, Kan., will judge.

The concert is free.

Sadler Arts Academy PTA will operate a concession with all proceeds going to the organization.
