WARNER – Connors State College’s nursing department will recognize 33 nursing students with its pinning ceremony at 3 p.m. Friday at the Muskogee Civic Center.
Dr. Donnie Nero, CSC president, will address the nursing students.
“It is an honor for me to be a part of the ceremonies,” Nero said. “Our nursing program is well known throughout our area. Glenda (Shockley, director of the nursing program) and her staff do an outstanding job of preparing our students to go into the workplace.”
The associate degree program was started on the Connors Warner Campus in 1984 with the admission of 20 students. Since that time, the program has experienced a tremendous amount of success and growth. Those factors prompted the college to expand its nursing curriculum to Muskogee at its Downtown Campus.
Each year 60 students are admitted into the program. Half of those enroll for the Warner campus classes in August and the other half are admitted to the Muskogee campus program in January.
“I can’t say how pleased I am with this year’s graduates,” Shockley said. “They have put a lot of work into their chosen professional path.
“Nursing is a wonderfully exciting career, and job opportunities are endless. Our new graduates fall in line with previous classes that have had a positive influence and impact in the medical field in our area.”
