The Muskogee Police Department is continuing its enhanced speed limit enforcement program in an effort to get drivers to slow down.
Lt. Todd Whitman said 229 citations were issued to motorists stopped for speeding violations in areas targeted for enhanced enforcement during April.
The program, which was launched in May 2007, was initiated upon the request of city councilors. It is intended to raise motorists’ awareness of driver safety.
The areas designated for enhanced speed limit enforcement this month are:
• Through today: Okmulgee Avenue between Main and York streets.
• Monday through May 16: U.S. 69 between Harris Street and Peak Boulevard.
• May 19-23: 24th Street between Shawnee Bypass and Peak Boulevard.
• May 26-30: York Street between Harris Road and Peak Boulevard.
