Project begins on Main

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation began this week removing two inches of asphalt on Main Street from Okmulgee Avenue to Shawnee Bypass.

The state maintenance project will cost $830,000 and is slated to be completed within 90 days, said Troy Travis of ODOT in Muskogee.

“We’re planning to mill out two inches of asphalt and put back two inches of hot mix/hot lay asphalt in its place,” he said.

One-lane street closings will be temporary, he said.

Glover & Associates of Muskogee was awarded the contract. And although they have 90 days to complete the project, it is expected it could be completed within 30 days, said David Meuser, spokesman for ODOT.

That is the only project in progress in the city of Muskogee, although other projects will be under way in the county, he said.

Other projects in progress in the area include a county bridge over Manard Bayou, 2.5 miles south and 1.7 miles east of Fort Gibson, that is about a $1 million project.

The new bridge is on the north side of the old bridge, so traffic won’t be affected during construction, Meuser said.

“We are awaiting paperwork through the Department of Environmental Quality relating to stormwater,” Meuser said.

In the Porum area, a $250,000 bridge 3.5 miles south and 1.8 miles east over an unnamed creek is 90 percent complete, Meuser said.
